Rip van Winkle Campgrounds
As we were headed to the race at Lime Rock Park, we knew we would be a few days without hookups. So we looked for a full-hookup campground near the racetrack. We have stayed at Rip van Winkle before and found it to be equal and cheaper than the near-by KOA.
The sites at Rip van Winkle are threaded throughout the woods. Some site are located on a river, while others back up to rock ledges, however these sites have limited hook-ups ( none for the former and no sewer for the latter) and since the hook-ups were our purpose for visiting we choose the site near the front of the campground. The site we were assigned had very little privacy, so Darren asked if we could be moved (in fairness, we did book at back-in site and the site we ask to move to was pull-through. They were very accommodating and we were glad we made the choice to ask.
This is a family destination-type campground, with many seasonal sites, most of which are maintained, some of which I would not want to camp near. The many amenities included ad pool, swimming hole, volleyball courts, basketball courts and I assume hay rides. It was not until we were leaving that I noticed the dog park and the 30′ metal dinosaur sculpture, so we will have to return sometime for photos.
